Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park

Set up in the year 1975, Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park is spread over a large area of 52,300 rai which is around 20,000 acres and is Thailand’s thirteenth national park. The park which includes the watershed area of the Prasae River is covered with a rich growth of tropical green forest and is home to different types of animal and plant life. Two natural trails, one being two kilometres and the other three kilometres in length, allow tourists to explore the park, enjoy nature at its best and provides them an opportunity to observe wildlife in their natural habitat. Visitors must register themselves at the tourist centre. Accommodation in tents and houses can be arranged at the time of admission.

Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park is known for its waterfalls, hiking trails and limestone caves. Visitors can spot deer, elephant, southern serow, banteng and gua, if they are lucky. The region experiences heavy rains from May till October, cooler climate from November to February and a pleasant summer during the months of March and April making it an around-the-year tourist destination.

Located close to the park headquarters is the Khao Chamao Waterfall which stretches over a distance of approximately three kilometres. The clear water of the waterfall cascades over different levels forming pools. The pools are inhabited by abundant fish which are clearly visible through the transparent waters. Chan Wang Machar level is teeming with fish, making it a great spot to visit and feed the fish. Visitors can follow the trail which takes them through the lush green forest till it reaches the waterfall. There are toilets and rest shelters along this trail where visitors can choose to freshen up before proceeding. The best time to experience the beauty of the Khao Chamao Waterfall is during the rainy season.

There is a campground where visitors can rent tents, 17 bungalows and a couple of youth camps which can accommodate upto 30 people. Tents which can accommodate 3 people can be hired for 225 Baht per day. The fee is considerably lower at 30 Baht a day per person, for those who have their own tents. Foreigners have to pay an entry fee of 400 Baht. The local Thais can enjoy the park at a mere 40 Baht. People having a valid work permit can avail of the special entry fee for locals.
